In chemistry, propynyl is an propyl functional group bearing a triple bond. 2-Propynyl is known as propargyl group with the structure of HC≡C−CH2 and 1-propynyl group has the structure of CH3-C≡C-.


Propynyl is also the common name for the phenethylamine known as 3,5-dimethoxy-4-(2-propynyloxy)phenethylamine.

Alexander Shulgin has experimented with the ingestion of 80mg of this chemical, and provided a journal entry that described an experience of physical torture. Highlights include "cold feet" an "intense body load" and feeling "physically fuzzy."
