Prophetic dance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Prophetic dance is a ritual dance in which the purpose is to obtain a communication from God (gods) or spirits. They exist in various cultures.
[edit] Christian faith
In the Christian faith, the dance is entered by some groups into as a means of allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to people. This can take place in any context: an individual in their own living room; a group workshop setting; a church service or youth event. [citation needed]
The dancer does not need any specific dance training. He/she goes into a very uninhibited way of moving, and the idea is that, whether consciously or not, the movements are inspired, guided or directed by the Holy Spirit for the purpose of communication and encouragement of either the dancer(s) and/or watchers. The movement should be interpreted in the light of Biblical purposes and principles, though these interpretations could be somewhat odd to some other Christian groups. [citation needed]
