Pronk (music)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pronk, or progressive punk, is a musical genre, named after a shortening of the two words. It is usually used to describe music influenced by the English band Cardiacs, who popularised the idea that progressive rock and punk rock could fit well together (despite not necessarily agreeing with the genre's pigeon hole.) Typical elements of pronk are rapid key changes, whole tone and other unusual scales, augmented fourth chords and unusual time signatures or polyrhythms, whilst still keeping the rock element of punk music. Notable bands that are referred to as pronk include the Monsoon Bassoon, Devo, Ad Nauseum, Dog Fashion Disco, Silvery, Camp Blackfoot, The Scaramanga Six and Little Trophy.
