A promotion is the advancement of rank or position in an organizational hierarchy system. The opposite is a demotion.
Promotion may be an employees reward for good performance i.e. positive appraisal. Before a company promotes an emplyee to a particular position it ensures that the person is trained to handle the added resposibilities. This is marked by Job enrichment & various training activities which my be on the job or off the job.
For an organization providing timely promotions ensures talent and ambition is nurtured and those determined employees are able to visualise a clear career path straight to the top.
