  • In business, a promoter is a particular type of entrepreneur who's focus is on promotion (ie. marketing) of individuals or ideas
    • (ie. as described by socioeconomists such as Ludwig von Mises).
    • In entertainment, a promoter is a person who makes arrangements and typically deals with financial compensation for one or more parties to an event.
    • A corporate promoter is a person who causes a corporation to be formed.
  • In biology, the promoter of a gene — the section of DNA that controls the initiation of RNA transcription as a product of that gene.
  • An accelerator of a catalyst, though not a catalyst itself
  • In the development of cancer, a promoter is a substance which can act to potentiate the cancer causing effects of an initiator. Typical examples are diethylstilbestrol, dietary fat and cigarette smoke (a promoter and an initiator.)
