Promisance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Promisance is the name for an open source MMOG codebase which was created by Paul C. Purgett, that is very popular and has a few derivatives, of which have spawned dozens of sites hosting them. It is written in PHP and uses MySQL for database operations. This codebase drives ~170 online MMOGs. Of the derivatives, there is a diverse culture within these games. Each has their own playing style, effects, and playing community.
The concept of the game came from Earth: 2025, the first game of the genre online. It took roughly 6 months to develop the first version and then from there, many developers such as Tom "Inferno" Finnell, Jordan "Mambo" Heine, Rob "Morvandium" Kellner, "Quietust", Brian "Thrustaevis" Nowak, "Xero", Dave "Westie" West, and Sami "m3mn0n" Fouad have contributed to the efforts.
From the original line, came "EZClan Promisance". Once developers there (Inferno & Mambo) did not release the source code anymore, Morvandium & Quietust (then later on Thrustaevis) made "QM Promisance" (later renamed to QMT).
QMT always remained open source, besides the highly advanced version of it called Epicurus. Because of its open nature, many developers out there downloaded it and placed it on their own site.
The QMT line of Promisance had very well written code in comparison to the code Purgett initially released and so, he made a new version of the original Promisance based on a recent QMT release.
The EZClan line was sold and then became the "Barbwire Promisance". A developer of Barbwire left to form WC, which later was renamed to "WGZ Promisance". Barbwire after months of mismanagement was dead and many of those players flocked to WGZ Promisance which now was the only version on the internet based on EZClan.
Presently, the original QMT is still being actively played by many and developed, WGZ is being actively played by many and developed, and many QMT clones are popping up all over the internet.
