Project CHATTER

Project Chatter was instigated by the US Navy late in 1947. Intelligence rumours of Soviet success with truth drugs fueled the program. The project was geared to identifying agents both synthetic and natural that were effective during interrogation. The project was centred around, but not restricted to, the use of Anabasis aphylla (an alkaloid), scopolamine and mescaline. The project was halted in 1953, presumably due to limited progress and the success of other projects.
