Profil (magazine)

profil is an Austrian news magazine. It was founded in 1970 by Oscar Bronner, who also founded the magazine Trend and the daily newspaper Der Standard.
The first edition of profil came out on September 7, 1970. Starting in October 1972, it was published every two weeks and from January 1974 every week. It is sometimes considered the Austrian Der Spiegel. profil includes the sections Austria, Abroad, Economy, Society, Science, and Culture. Glosses, Caricatures, and letters to the editor are also published.
Christian Rainer has been publisher and editor-in-chief since 1998, when he succeeded Josef Votzi. The chief editorial staff consists of Sven Gächter, Stefan Janny, and Dr. Herbert Lackner.
profil is owned by the publishing company NEWS.
In the first 6 months of 2005, profil had a circulation of 100,000.
