Procyon in fiction

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As one of the brightest stars in the night sky, Procyon (Alpha Canis Minoris in the constellation Canis Minor) regularly appears in science fiction.

[edit] Literature

  • In the Viagens Interplanetarias stories of L. Sprague de Camp its system contains the inhabited planets of Osiris, Isis, and Thoth.
  • The human colony world of We Made It (which is mentioned in Larry Niven's stories and books of the Known Space) orbits Procyon. Pierson's Puppeteers are said to have evolved in a solar system with a star similar to Procyon (which later became a red giant).
  • In Uller Uprising by H. Beam Piper, Procyon is the name of a contragravity warship equipped with rockets and autocannon of 40mm and 90mm calibers. It is instrumental in crushing the 'Geek Rebellion' of native, anti-human Ullerans.
  • In the Terran Trade Authority, Procyon is orbited by three planets, the middle of which, Sisuphos, is a barely-habitable mining world.

[edit] Games

  • In Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters, Procyon is the primary star for the homeworld of the crystalline Chenjesu race, but during the game's events it is learned that the Chenjesu have fused with the Mmrnmhrm to become the Chmmr, effectively replacing the Chenjesu. However, it has nothing in common with the real star.
  • In Disney's treasure planet: Battle at Procyon, the Homeworld of the Empire's worst enemy, The Procyon Expance, is in the Procyon system and is called Procya.
  • In Frontier: Elite II: Procyon is represented as an uninhabited, worldless binary star system.
