According to the back cover of Nabaldian, S.: Aesthetic Autobiography : From Life to Art in Marcel Proust, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf and Anais Nin, (paperback edition, Palgrave Macmillan 1997; ISBN 0-312-17289-3) the photographer was Boris Lipnitzki (1887 - 1971) [1], and the copyright is held by the french agency Roger-Viollet. I've found no publication info on this image. Lupo 09:39, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

This work is copyrighted and unlicensed. It does not fall into one of the blanket fair use categories listed at Wikipedia:Fair use#Images or Wikipedia:Fair use#Audio_clips. However, it is believed that the use of this work in the article "Marcel Proust":

  • To illustrate the object in question
  • Where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information
  • On the English-language Wikipedia ([2]), hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation ([3]),

qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use and Wikipedia:Copyrights.

To the uploader: this tag is not a sufficient claim of fair use. You must also include the source of the work, all available copyright information, and a detailed fair use rationale.

Fair use rationale: It is difficult to obtain public domain images of Marcel Proust; in addition, there have not been found any reason to believe that this image would violate the commercial interest of the copyright owners; in addition the copyright of this image is still uncertain -- it may be public domain in the U.S. as a pre-1923 publication. / Fred-Chess 11:24, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
