However, before she was a married woman, Princess Thyra had an affair with a Palace guardsman, Vilhelm Frimann Marcher (1841-1872), who was evidently not good enough to become her husband due to court etiquette and rank. A daughter, Maria Katharina, was born in 1872 in Greece and given up for adoption. She was taken in by a Danish couple, Rasmus and Anne Marie Jorgensen, and renamed Kate. She married in 1902 to a Frode Ployen-Holstein. After a confrontation with King Christian IX, the child's father killed himself. Thyra was married off to her German prince six years later.

I removed this from the marriage section of the article. FOr some reason, I don't believe that any of this is true. If it is, feel free to readd, with appropriate sources. Thanks. Prsgoddess187 01:07, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

I saw a clip of a documetary of the Danish Royal Family and one of the royals (I can't remember who) talked about it so it must be true.
