Prix Maurice de Nieuil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prix Maurice de Nieuil is a Group 2 flat horse race in France for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 2,800 metres (approximately 1 mile 6 furlongs) at Maisons-Laffitte Racecourse in July.
It was first run in 1920 at Saint-Cloud Racecourse as the Prix des Maréchaux, which was re-named in 1947 as the Prix de Strasbourg. The race was given its present name in 1949, in memory of Maurice de Nieuil, a prominent figure in French racing who died earlier that year. The race moved to Maisons-Laffitte in 1990.
Prior to 2001 the distance was 2,500 metres (1 mile 4½ furlongs), and three-year-olds were eligible to run in the race.
