Private William Hudson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Private First Class William Hudson (PFC W. Hudson A08/TQ1.0.41776E3) is a fictional character in the 1986 science fiction movie Aliens, and was portrayed by Bill Paxton.

[edit] Character History

Private Hudson is a member of the fictional military unit USCM Sulaco (United States Colonial Marines), that was deployed to the planet LV-426 to investigate the sudden loss of contact with the colonists on the moon. The events of this investigation are depicted in the movie Aliens.

Initially Private Hudson is portrayed as an over-confident, self-assured and blithe character who constantly brags about he and his team's abilities. However, this character quickly shows his weaknesses when placed under the extraordinary situation of having to fight the Xenomorphs, an alien enemy that the marines had previously not believed existed.

Private Hudson presumably dies during the course of the movie, when the Xenomorphs stage an attack on the human survivors who have taken refuge in a supposedly sealed area of the colonist building. Private Hudson is shooting an advancing group of Xenomorphs when one unseen Xenomorph reaches up through the floor and grabs him, although his death is not depicted on-screen.

[edit] Memorability

The character of Private Hudson has been ingrained into modern pop culture as a braggart who panics under pressure. His panic attack after the marines barely make it out of the Xenomorphs' nest has been spoofed repeatedly. The original dialogue of his panic attack is:

"That's it man, game over man, game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?"

One such spoof of this speech was in Aladdin and the King of Thieves, when after the end credits, the Genie appears in front of a black screen and goes, "Game over man, game over!"
