Prioress Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prioress Handicap is a race for Thoroughbred three-year-old fillies run in July as a six furlong sprint at Belmont Park. The race is a Grade I event and carries a purse of $250,000. In its 60th renewal in 2007, the Prioress is among the top races for sprinting fillies.
The Prioress was named for the filly Prioress (out of the great mare Reel, herself by Glencoe), the first American Thoroughbred ever to win in England. The year was 1858.
Ta Wee won this race in 1969.
