Prince Edward Island general election, 1935
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prince Edward Island general election, 1935 was held in the Canadian Province of Prince Edward Island. The Liberal party swept the board by winning every seat in every constituency. Liberal Leader Walter Maxfield Lea became Premier of Prince Edward Island for the second time. This was the first time in the British Commonwealth that a government would face no opposition in an elected chamber. This developed into a rather unique situation as some members of the Government took the opportunity to assume the duties of an unofficial opposition and criticise the actions of their own party. It should be noted for statistical purposes, that the split in the popular vote, 58% to 42%, would on other occasions produce different results. For example in the 1970 election the government won by a greater margin, yet the opposition won 5 seats.
