Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, also known as Dimitri Karadjordjevic (born June 18, 1958 in Boulogne-sur-Seine, France) is the eldest son of Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia (b. 1924) and his first wife Maria Pia of Savoy, daughter of King Umberto II of Italy. He belongs to the cadet branch of the Royal House of Yugoslavia, descending from Regent Prince Paul of Yugoslavia. He is a third cousin of Alexander, Crown Prince of Yugoslavia, and 101st in line of succession to the British throne.
His grandmother was Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark (sister of Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent). Dimitri is also a first cousin to Filiberto Emanuele, Prince of Venice, son and heir of the pretender to the throne of Italy, a second cousin to Constantine II of Greece and also first cousin of the actress Catherine Oxenberg.
Through his mother, Prince Dimitri descends from the Italian noble family of Dukes of San Pietro di Galatina, who were heirs of George Castriota the Scanderbeg, the national hero of Albania and the Sovereign Lord of that country, in rebellion against the Turkish rule.
Through the same Kastriotis family, Dimitri is descendant of Stepan Uros III Decanski and Stepan Uros II Milutin, medieval Nemanjic kings of Serbia and of several other, earlier Nemanjic kings, and also descends from Serbian medieval Brankovic princes of Raska, Syrmia and Kosovo; and from Stepan Lazar Hrebeljanovic, a medieval ruler of Serbia; and is a descendant of despotes Constantine Dragas, medieval Serbian prince and ruler of Velebusdos and East Macedonia in Serres; of Matthaios Asanes Kantakuzenos, a co-emperor of Constantinople; as well as of Thomas Palaiologos, son and brother of the last Byzantine Emperors.
