Prince Andreas of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duke in Saxony (Andreas Michael Friedrich Hans Armin Siegfried Hubertus) (b. Casel, March 21, 1943) has been the Head of the Ducal Family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and titular Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha since 1998, as he is descended from the House of Wettin who ruled Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
The Prince was born to Prince Friedrich Josias and the former Countess Viktoria-Luise of Solms-Baruth. He became heir-apparent to the Headship on March 6, 1954, when his father became the Head. Prince Andreas succeeded to the Headship on his father's death on January 23, 1998.
In Hamburg on 31 July 1971, Andreas married Carin Dabelstein. This marriage, apparently morganatic, was autorized by his father, and Andreas retained his place of heir-apparent of the Headship. They had three children:
- Stephanie Sibylla (b. Hamburg, 31 January 1972).
- Hubertus Michael (b. Hamburg, 16 September 1975), the heir-apparent to the Headship.
- Alexander Philipp (b. Coburg, 4 May 1977).
He is currently 259th on the line of succession to the British throne being a great-grandson of Queen Victoria's youngest son Leopold, Duke of Albany. However, were the of Dukedom of Albany to be restored, he would not be the holder. Instead, Ernst Leopold Eduard Wilhelm Josias Wettin would inherit the dukedom through his father John Leopold, Hereditary Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha [1]. Prince Andreas has both German and British nationality. He performed military service from 1966 to 1968. Prince Andreas completed a traineeship in timber management from 1969 to 1971.
