Prickett's Fort State Park

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prickett's Fort State Park is located 22-acres (0.088 km²)[1] elevated above the confluence of Prickett's Creek and the Monongahela River. The day use park is located about 2 miles (3 km) from Exit 139 of I-79, north of Fairmont, West Virginia in Marion County. Prickett's Fort features a re-created frontier fort that serves as a living history reenactment of 18th century frontier life. The original Job Prickett House, built in 1859[2], sits a few feet outside the stockade walls of the fort. The 19th century house provides a contrast to the frontier lifestyle displayed inside the fort's walls.

[edit] Non-motorized park access

Prickett's Fort is the terminus for two rail trails open only to non-motorized travel. To the south, the 3-mile (5 km)long Marion County Trail (McTrail) connects Fairmont to the park.[3] Morgantown is about 17½ miles north of the park along the Mon River Trail.[4] The two trails, level and covered with a crushed gravel surface, are used by walkers, joggers, and cyclists.
