The nation of San Puerto is a Caribbean style micronation founded in December 2005 by Wisconsin resident Ross Eisenreich. The goal is to establish sovereign city-states on a man-made island on Rosalind Bank. The cost of the projected 5 square acre island is $10 Million USD according to the Israeli reports of artificial island costs. Much like The Palm & World projects in Dubai the man made island will be built using a slurry dredge which pours sand on a pile until an island rises out of the sea. This island will include everything a small nation needs food source, water, and shelter. The island will be self sufficient in every way, as defined by Article 1 of the Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States of 1933, to be recognized by other nations as sovereign. Even thought the project is advanced in theory to date there is no physical presence of the Republic available. And little funding at the present time has created serious problems in completing the project.
San Puerto is envisioned by Ross as an artificial island nation in the Caribbean Sea that has a capitalist economy with little government intervention. The nation will rely on fishing and farming fruits, cattle, and poultry for food. But This Island Paradise like many other Caribbean nations will flourish as a tourist hotspot.
The site selected for San Puerto is an underwater reef – the Rosalind Bank, with a surface area of over 20 square kilometers with an average depth of 33 meters. The Island of Cayo de Serranila of Colombia is approximately 50 miles southeast.

[edit] Currency
Currently San Puerto has released its own currency. The San Puerto dollar was introduced in July of 2006. Bank-Notes remain the only form of currency until coins can be minted. Also San Puerto has opened an online bank to made money transfer easy and eases the demand for Paperback and coins for day to day use.
[edit] History
Extending as far back as the 1960s there have been attempts to create sovereign nations including such efforts as the Atlantis Project the Republic of Minerva. Since December of 2005 the government of San Puerto has adopted a constitution that is similar to the U.S. constitution. Currently San Puerto is focusing on Article 1 of the Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States of 1933 which is a benchmark for other nations to recognize San Puerto as a sovereign nation. As of September 3rd the Nation of San Puerto will officially declare its independence. At the same time the newly created San Puerto Government will officially annex the area within Rosalind Bank needed to build the artificial island and 12 nautical miles around the site.
