Preston Reed
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Preston Reed is an American acoustic guitar player and composer.
[edit] Biography
Born in Armonk, New York, Preston Reed's first live performance was in support of beat poet Allen Ginsberg at the Smithsonian Institute. He then released his first minor label album before recording three on the Flying Fish label. His next four (now out of print) were major-label releases on MCA Records. He currently records on his own label, Outer Bridge.
Reed began as a strictly fingerstyle acoustic guitarist in the vein of such artists as Leo Kottke and John Fahey before branching out into an innovative two-hand tapping, percussive style. He frequently uses altered guitar tunings.
He has been commissioned for film soundtracks and a suite of original music for the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet. He currently resides in Scotland.
