Prep-to-pro
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Prep-to-pro", or "the Jump", is a term given to basketball players who enter the NBA directly following the graduation of high school. It has been the subject of much controversy, as many feel that players who enter the league straight from high school are not as prepared for the rigorous NBA season as college athletes.
Starting with the 2006 NBA Draft, a U.S. player will not be allowed to declare draft eligibility unless they meet both of the following criteria:
- At least one year has passed since his high school class graduated.
- The player is 19 or older on December 31 of the calendar year of the draft.
This will effectivelly make "the Jump" a thing of the past.
