About the Artist Pratima Naithani, born to an Indian father and Salvadorian mother, splits her time between New York City and Mumbai, India. She is a graduate of the prestigious School of Visual Arts in New York City and has developed her own unique form of photography that involves “sculpting” an image. Her works revolve around her fascination with her Indian heritage and the manipulation of classic images to retell history from her point of view. Her current exhibition, Rooted In Time, includes two series – one involving 1940’s and 50’s Bollywood film, the other uses miniature format of Mughal art.

Success in India Leads to European Endeavors
NEW YORK, NY, July 2006 – After spending nearly half the year in India presenting her solo show, Rooted In Time, curated by Vikas Harish, New York City-based fine arts photographer Pratima Naithani has announced that she will be moving to Paris, France to oversee her upcoming European tour, details of which are still in the works.
During its time in New Dehli and Mumbai, India March and April of this year, Rooted In Time enthralled the public, garnering attention from celebrities, the art world, and Indian Media alike. Ms. Naithani’s work created a national dialogue in regards to photography as fine art. Critics found her art work “compelling” (Outlook Magazine), “she adds a timeless aura to celluloid moments,” (DNA Sunday) the impact of which is producing “striking results,” (Bombay Times) elevating the level of anticipation for the show to continue on throughout Europe.
Over the next two years Rooted in Time will continue to find new audiences in captivated collectors and museums across the United Kingdom, Italy, France and Germany. With great confidence and support from curators and buyers, as well as positive responses from reviewers, it appears the move to Paris will be a significant one for Naithani and her fine art photography, paving the way to a bright future for this very talented young prodigy.
