Pratapgad

Pratapgad (also spelt as Pratapgarh, Pratapgadh)is a massive fort located in the Sahyadri mountain range of western Maharashtra, India, 25 kilometres from Mahabaleshwar. This fort stands 900 metres above sea level. Shivaji commissioned Moropant Trimbak Pingle, who completed the construction of this fort in 1656 AD.
The fort holds a temple dedicated to Shivaji's chosen deity Bhavani.

The fort is most well known for the encounter and decisive battle between Shivaji Maharaj and the Bijapuri general Afzul Khan, 10th November, 1659.
