Prairiewood is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is primarily a residential suburb. Fairfield Hospital was moved to Prairiewood in 1988 from its original location in Fairfield. It is also home to a golf course and Fairfield Showground, schools, a leisure centre and Major Shopping Centre.

The golf course is a beautiful 18 hole course which is about to be renovated and improved. There has been about 20 million dollars invested into the club. Notable workers there included Australian Open Champion Frank Phillips, who left in 1992.Within Prairiewood here is upper and lower Prairiewood, each area signifying different house values. Upper Prairiewood, begins at the top end of the golf course (club house end) while lower prairiewood is on the showground end next to the local swimming pools. They experience different Real Estate prices because Upper Prairiewood, (home to Beavors St and Corio Rd, two streets known for the magnificence of the homes there, but majorly Corio Rd, as Beavors Rd is more for first home buyers, due to cheaper prices) experiences better geographical views and are an elevated position. The whole Prairiewood area consists of a multicultural community but notably consists of Croatians, Greeks and Italians.

Fairfield Showground is home to many cultural celebrations and the Fairfield Markets, which are a common attraction every Saturday morning. Prairiewood was once a part of Wetheril Park, but broke apart in the 70's as a separate suburb.
