Prairie Ridge High School, or "PR," is the newest of the three high schools in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The school was founded in 1997 to address the overpopulation of the two other Crystal Lake schools. In addition to Crystal Lake, Prairie Ridge also accepts students from Cary, Prairie Grove, and a small portion of McHenry. Prior to opening its doors, the first graduating class of students was allowed to vote on the name, colors, and song for the new High School. District 155 approved the name, and Prairie Ridge was born.

Prairie Ridge has always been known as a very well off school. Many High School students from other schools nearby to PR have jokingly nicknamed the school "Preppy Ridge" to make fun of its wealthy students.

Prairie Ridge has also been well known for having a particularly good performing arts program. The head of the department, Mr. Dave Jensen is mutually respected and loved by both students and staff alike. In addition to the annual spring musical the performing arts department also puts on a fall play, a talent show, a Christmas Madrigal Dinner, a spring play, and many concerts annually. Some notable musicals and plays from the High School’s past include: "Crazy for You" starring Todd Zehrer and Natalee Lales, "Rehearsal for Murder" starring Geoff Zokal and Heidi Masonic, and "Moon over Buffalo" starring Michael Schwan and Jenny Meador.
