Practical joke device

A practical joke device is an object which is intended to frighten designated or undesignated persons, in order to enjoy their reaction.

Joke devices are used especially at parties and events like Carnival, Halloween, April 1, birthdays and other less-than-formal meetings. In addition practical joke devices are used in everyday life, mostly by school children or among co-workers.

Besides the specialized practical joke devices, everyday objects can be converted into a joke device.

Practical joke devices are very old. Xenophanes (570 - 480 BC) himself described these gags. Practical jokes were probably played in the Stone Age, e.g. with dead animals. Other old roots can also to be found in Halloween. The joke devices known today have been around for at least 100 years.

In addition to normal businesses, like warehouses and card shops, there are also speciality practical joke device and magic stores. Furthermore, one can also order these items over the internet or manufacture them for oneself.
