PR-72P class corvettes are French-designed warships in service with the Peruvian Navy. Six units were ordered in 1976 by the Marina de Guerra del Perú from the Société Française de Construction Navale. Subsequently, three of them were built by the company's own shipyard at Villeneuve-la-Garenne and the rest subcontracted to Lorient Naval Dockyard. They were launched from 1978 until 1979 and commissioned between 1980 and 1981. Pennant numbers were originally P-101 to P-106, but were later modified to CM-21 to CM-26, where CM stands for corbeta misilera, Spanish for guided missile corvette.
They are fitted with the following electronic systems:
- A Thomson-CSF THD 1040 Triton search radar
- A Thomson-CSF Vega fire-control system
- A Thomson-CSF Castor II fire-control radar
- A CSEE Panda optical director
- A Decca 1226 navigation radar
- A Thomson-CSF DR-2000 ESM system
In 1998 the Peruvian Navy signed a contract with MTU to re-engine three PR-72P class corvettes. The other units are expected to be similarly modified in the near future.
