Poweriser

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Powerisers are jumping stilts produced by the Poweriser company of Korea. They were originally patented by Alexander Bock (US Patent No. 6,719,671 B1) on April 13, 2004.

Each boot consists of a foot pad with snowboard type bindings, foot-plate and a fibreglass leaf spring.

While wearing Powerisers the user is generally able to jump 1–1.5 metres (3–5 ft) off the ground and run up to 20 mph (32 km/h). They also give the ability to take up to 10 foot strides.

Other brands also exist such as PowerSkip, Street Jumpers, Velocity Stilts, PoweriZers, Fly Jumpers and Pro-Jumps.

Some of the differences between these brands and powerisers is the price and types of springs. Poweriser springs tend to break down slowly over time by creating little cracks within the fiberglass spring. Powerskip springs stay stronger for a longer period of time, but when they eventually break down the spring usually cracks in half, rendering it useless.

The Powerisers were originally produced in three models:

  • Model 7090 – for users that are 155–200 lb (70–90 kg)
  • Model 5070 – for users that are 110–155 lb (50–70 kg)
  • Model 3050 – for users that are 70–110 lb (30–50 kg)

There is now an additional model, 90120; for users that are 90–120kg

The powerisers weigh 16.5–20.9 lb (7.5–9.5 kg) a pair and measure 35.8 in x 11.42 in x 14.75 in (90.9 x 29 x 37.47 cm).

The use of the stilts to perform extreme jumping, running and acrobatics is known as 'Bocking' or 'PowerBocking' after the inventor.
