Power and Glory
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Power & Glory was a short lived tag-team in the World Wrestling Federation during the early 1990s (from about 1990-1991). This team consisted of former superstars Paul "Romeo" Roma (Glory-Looks) and Hercules (Power-Strength). The team was managed by Slick. Both wrestlers were babyfaces until they turned heel against The Rockers during the summer of 1990. Their finisher was a tandem move where Hercules would land a superplex from the second rope as Roma simultaneously hit a big splash from the top rope of another corner. Considered a spectacular finisher for its time, the maneuver was never officially named on WWF television, though commentators did refer to it as the "Powerplex" on an occasion or two.
[edit] History
The team made its first Pay-Per-View appearance at SummerSlam 1990 where they defeated The Rockers in six minutes after "injuring" Shawn Michaels' knee and manhandling Marty Jannetty. They challenged WWF Tag Team champions The Hart Foundation at a number of house shows in late-1990, but they were consistently defeated by the Harts. They made it to the Grand Finale Match of Survival at Survivor Series 1990 along with teammates Rick Martel and Warlord. Led by Captain Martel, the four-man team of "The Visionaries" were the first team in Survivor Series history to win their elimination match with their entire team intact.
At WrestleMania VII, they lost to the Legion of Doom in less than 30 seconds. They jobbed to LOD in such a short time because LOD was getting a push towards the tag-team titles that they would capture at SummerSlam 1991, the next PPV. Summerslam 1991 also turned out to be the final PPV appearance by the team of Power & Glory. They teamed with Warlord in a six-man tag team match, losing to Ricky Steamboat & Davey Boy Smith & Kerry Von Erich.
