Pow Choi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pow Choi (拋錘 lit. up-throwing hammar) is an upward block or strike that is used in the Hop Gar System of Kung Fu. Some of the main uses for this technique are to block long range strikes such as the straight punch. This strike can also be used as a "fishing" technique. For instance if your opponent was to strike you using a straight punch toward the stomach, you would purposefully use an upward block in order to make the side of your body open for your opponent to strike, hence the term "fishing". If you opponent decides to take the bait and strike the side of you body, all you would have to do is drop the arm and Chie Sahn (turn the body on the balls of the feet). From that point you can then use any technique that you would want to in order to manipulate your opponent.
