The raspberry (Rubus ideaus) is technically not a berry, but instead an aggregate fruit of numerous drupelets around a central core. It typically grows in forest clearings or fields and is an opportunistic colonizer of disturbed soil (such as by fire or by woodcutting). Xylitol, a sugar alcohol alternative sweetener, can be extracted from raspberries and can prevent or reverse tooth decay.
