[edit] Background
Potentia Media was founded in 2004 by journalist and photographer Amanda Jones.
[edit] Mission
Potentia media delivers facts to the global community about social issues. It combines fine art visuals, inspirational literature, and technology, to generate awareness of poverty, violence, education, the environment, HIV/AIDS and other health concerns. Potentia's projects encourage its audience to work toward rational solutions to these concerns.
[edit] Projects
- Book: "Potentia-How Women Can Change the Planet" is a coffee table book and a website demonstrating how investing in women and girls can improve the quality of life for men, women and children everywhere. This approach to development efforts has been supported by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan who has previously remarked, “Education, especially for girls, has economic and social benefits for society as a whole.” (See [1]) The 172-page book contains art by Joyce Tenneson, Albert Watson and Viggo Mortensen, pieces by writers such as Isabel Allende, Michael Chabon, Barbara Kingsolver, and Arundhati Roy, and hard-hitting statistics.
- Website: The website provides users access to information and statistics on the state of the world's women. Aggregating information about birth rates, literacy rates, gender equality in school, child and maternal mortality, average female life expectancy, women in government, users can search on a global, national or regional level. On the website people can take immediate action by signing petitions, donating money, writing letters, or learn about local women's cause organizations and volunteer opportunities. Corporate and non-profit partners have visibility on this site and can publish their own messages on social responsibility and offer promotions.
- Music CD: Engineered by an external music production company, the CD includes global music from renowned artists. The CD promotes female musicians, addresses an audience that might not be aware of the book, and provides an auditory environment for readers of "Potentia-How Women Can Change the Planet."
[edit] Philanthropy
Potentia collaborates with corporate partners to support non-profit cause organizations. As its cause partner, profits from the book and other Potentia phases go to the Global Fund for Women, the world's largest non-profit foundation working exclusively to support women's human rights internationally.
Partnering with thousands of women's groups in 160 countries, the Global Fund for Women supports initiatives to help women gain economic parity, to increase girls' access to education, to end violence against women, and to expand women's political participation.
