Positiva Records is a subsidiary of EMI and is one of the leading dance music labels in the UK. The most successful releases on this label are Lola's Theme by Shapeshifters, Flashdance by Deep Dish, Need To Feel Loved by Reflekt feat. Delline Bass.
Positiva Records was set up in 1993, by Nick Halkes ,the former head of XL Recordings, and is a subsidiary of major company EMI. The label is based in Brook Green, West London. Since its inception, it has been one of the leading dance music labels in the UK.
In the early days, Positiva established its credentials in the industry by releasing records from many names whom had previously not been widely recognised in the UK. One of the label's first releases, for example, was "I Like To Move It" by Reel 2 Reel, an alias of dance DJ Erick Morillo. Later, the label signed tracks from legendary US vocalist Barbara Tucker, who went on to release tracks including "Beautiful People", (1995) "Stay Together" (1995 again) and "Stop Playing With My Mind". (2000) Other house releases in this period were from Umboza, The Bucketheads and Judy Cheek.
During the late 1990s, the trance scene was fast emerging, and Positiva were quick to notice this. This is the label which has released trance tracks such as DJ Quicksilver's "Belissima", Watergate's "Heart Of Asia", Ayla, with "Ayla", Binary Finary "1998" and BBE's "Seven Days And One Week". Positiva is a mainly commercial label, but its influence to dance music cannot be ignored.
As dance music has gone through a difficult period in recent years, the label's releases have changed somewhat. Successful releases in the last few years include "Lola's Theme" by the Shapeshifters, "Flashdance" by Deep Dish, the latest remixes of The Source feat. Candi Staton, "You Got The Love" and most recently, "Watch The Sunrise" by Swedish DJ and producer Axwell, with a vocal from Steve Edwards.
