Poser porn

Poser porn is a name popularly given to computer graphic pornography. The term is derived from Poser, a popular three-dimensional modeling and animation software tool. (Poser porn may also be referred to as Poserotica.)
The freedom allowed by using computer-generated imagery allows pornographers to create scenes or scenarios that would not be possible (or legal) within the realm of live action shooting. Therefore, many Poser pornographers choose to create fantastical scenes that may feature animals, monsters, aliens, magical or supernatural elements or far-fetched BDSM scenarios. Violent and disturbing imagery may also be seen in such computer-generated porn.
A few of the advantages of this approach include:
- the animator can create "actors" with any desired appearance, even incorporating unnatural or improbable bodily proportions
- the computer-generated figures can assume positions which would be very difficult or impossible for actual humans
- the animator has complete control (that is, the actors will not refuse or be unable to perform)
Note that the animator must have some skill in working with the software, otherwise the result will not have the desired look. Even if lifelike models and templates are provided (as with Poser), realistic and fluid animation is often difficult to achieve. Although Poser Porn could refer to the usage Poser or other 3D rendering software (both stills and animation), it can also be referenced in communities, such as Alt.Binaries.3d.Poser and Renderotica, as cheap pornography without much artistic skill needed. For example, someone taking stock Jesse and James from Poser 6, place them in quick compromising pose, and render them. This sometimes can be done in disregard to mood lighting, actual touchups, or anything that would separate them from folks who makes more distinct and appealing pictures. A majority of the pictures that exist on Renderotica can take up significant amount of time either between getting the lighting right to final touchups in Image Editing Software, hence why what is sometimes refer to Poser Porn is so noticeable because of the big contrast in image quality.
The more probable reason why that it is called Poser Porn rather than Maya Porn(for example) seems to stem from the inexpensive nature of the Poser brand. It also may stem from the fact it is very easy to load a model, and a pose, into poser, and hit the render button since 3 lights are already created for you. Opinions differ where this reference exactly comes from in the communities, when it refers to 'cheap porn' type things.
However, with all this in mind, it is not necessarily out of laziness that "Poser Porn" is created, but rather the majority that get slapped with term are just beginning. While Poser is easy to use right out of the box (to a point), there are still things in 3D space most newcomers have to learn to get the most of their images, such as lighting, texture maps, and other wondrous things that will improve the quality. Poser is a good introduction to Character animation, due to it low price and already available stock figures, so overtime most of these folks learn the in's and outs, and improve over time, and eventually go "Oh my <Select deity of choice>" when they look at their older works, and what they done now.
