The article states that "Since 2003, the military service is optional." Does that mean that military service is now fully on a contract basis, or is there still a draft but with an "alternative service" option of some kind? Moonshiner 05:40, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
In line with how the Portuguese Armed Forces call themselves in Portuguese, and how they translate that into English, I propose renaming this article "Portuguese Armed Forces". This would make the name of the article more descriptive too, rather than the current title "Military of Portugal" which was originally created only for the purpose of transcribing information from an American facts & figures source, the CIA World Fact Book. The "porting" of this fact book into Wikipedia is a subject of some contention as well.--jrleighton 05:50, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
Can somebody please - de link the Portuguese Navy article- this redirects back to the Armed forces article - I wish to start work on a dedicated article
