Porter King (November 24, 1857 – October 24, 1901) was born in Marion County, Alabama and came to Atlanta as a lawyer in 1882. He served as mayor from 1895 to 1897 and was reluctant to run for any office again until friends convinced him to run for the Georgia General Assembly in 1900. He served one week before vacating his seat and died later that year after a "stroke of apoplexy" in his Atlanta home.
