Port Royale 2 is the sequel to the trade simulation game Port Royale. It is set in the Caribbean during the 16th and 17th centuries. Created by Ascaron Entertainment in 2004, it combines an economic simulator with real-time battles and towns that can be owned, built, developed or razed.

This is an open-ended game, so the player can choose to pursue any career they wish. This could range from a Rum Tycoon (using the sugar cane path) to a vicious buccaneer scourging the Caribbean.

Also important to the game are the colonial nations and their relations with each other. For instance; a player who is loyal to Spain can choose to participate in wars between the Iberic nation and, perhaps, England - by fighting as a privateer for the Spanish.

Also in the game, famous pirates of the age make appearances. These sea wolves are likely to attack any ship or town that they please, including those that may belong to the player.

The game includes several tutorial scenarios to teach the ropes to the new comer. Worth of noting is that the game has no pre-programmed cheat codes, but a few interested players have written a few walkthroughs which may help the player avoid Davy Jones' locker too early in the game
