The Port Pirie City are a football (soccer) club from Port Pirie, South Australia. Pt. Pirie play in the FFSA South Australian State League. Their home ground is at Savoy Park. They are great rivals of fellow Port Pirie club, the Northern Demons. Demons play in the Premier League however, and City are one of the weakest sides in the State League.

[edit] History

The club was founded in 1949 under the name of Savoy Soccer Club. The name would stay with the club until entering the SASF State league in 1996 when it was renamed the Port Pirie City Soccer Club Inc.

The first meetings were held in a room above the Savoy Milk Bar in Alexander Street. The milk bar was owned by Domenic Mezzino. The foundation committee comprised President M. Porcelli, Chairman A.Balice, Secretary D. Mezzino, Treasurer M. Caldarola, L. Angione and team coach M. Capurso.

The first clubrooms were officially opened on Saturday 31 October 1959 after the committee had agreed to purchase a house and proceed with very substantial renovations. The converted house was used as clubrooms until 1964.

In 1964 the committee directed that the old building be demolished and a complete new structure be built on the same site. The new clubrooms were opened on the 16th of April 1965. From that point many extensions and improvements have been made to the clubrooms over the years.

The Savoy Park ground was first opened in 1957. In 1991 the pitch was replanted and has since been maintained at a high standard.
