Port Matilda, Pennsylvania

Port Matilda is a borough in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 638 at the 2000 census.

Port Matilda is located at 40°48′0″N, 78°3′4″W (40.800056, -78.051119)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.6 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 638 people, 257 households, and 170 families residing in the borough. The population density was 447.9/km² (1,169.4/mi²). There were 274 housing units at an average density of 192.3/km² (502.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.90% White, 0.16% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.47% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.78% of the population.

There were 257 households out of which 27.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the borough the population was spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 100.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $31,932, and the median income for a family was $37,344. Males had a median income of $29,375 versus $23,375 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $15,753. About 16.2% of families and 19.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 46.9% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.
