History and Operations
The Port Bienville Railroad was built by Hancock County Mississippi to serve the Port Bienville Industrial Park. It is operated under the authority of the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission. The Port Bienville Short line Railroad (PBVR) is a “full service” short-line railroad that connects with the CSXT. The PBVR provides line-haul transportation to and from the Park, as well as switching, storage, repair/maintenance,trans-loading, rail car unloading service and rail car cleaning for Port Bienville Tenants and others. Rail cars are typically shipped the same day information is received to forward the car. Inbound cars are delivered to customers the same day they are received. The PBVR currently interchanges about 8000 carloads per year.
Repair and Maintenance of rail cars is provided through the Anderson Corporation. They operate as a mobile unit on Port Bienville Railroad property. The service includes most AAR type repairs, as well as “customer requested” repairs as needed.
All mainline rail within Port Bienville has 286,000 pound gross-weight-on-rail capability. PBVR can store up to 429 rail cars at any one time. Multi-modal warehouse and trans-load facilities are available. The multi-modal facility is located in the Gulf Coast Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) #92 within the industrial park. A trans-loading site is available for other prime sites for bulk transfers and storage of product
Port Bienville Short line Railroad (PBVR) provides daily service to a Class I connection via interchange at Ansley, Mississippi.
The Railroad provides switching services for various customers within their plants and for moving cars to and from off-plant site storage facilities. PBVR also offers rail car in-transit storage for customers who ship across the Gulf Coast. Located just 40 miles from New Orleans, Louisiana. With daily service providing great flexibility for storing of future shipments.
