Category talk:Portmanteaus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The plural of "portmanteau", which is used throughout that article, is "portmanteaux"; also, List of portmanteaus redirects to List of portmanteaux. Then why is this category called "portmanteaus"? I expected it to be named Category:portmanteaux. Daniel 13:12, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Portmanteaus/Portmanteaux
Hmm. Well, according to Merriam-Webster, the plural can be either portmanteaus or portmanteaux. Perhaps it would just be best then to create a portmanteaux page as a redirect. · Katefan0(scribble) 19:27, May 16, 2005 (UTC)

- Since the -s is more common usage as a plural than the -x, I have made List of portmanteaus the main article and redirected List of portmanteaux. THis should fix the category parallelism problem. All relevant pages also disambiguated. · Katefan0(scribble) 14:15, May 17, 2005 (UTC)

- According the the Wikipedia main article, the -x ending is more common (in fact, the only correct) usage. So, I would expect the reverse situation, that is, for List of portmanteaux to be the main article and to be redirected from List of portmanteaus.
