Pontederiaceae is the botanical name of a family of flowering plants. Such a family has been recognized by relatively few taxonomists.

The APG II system, of 2003 (unchanged from the APG system, of 1998), does recognize such a family and places it in the order Commelinales, in the clade commelinids, in the monocots. It then is a small family of aquatic plants, occurring in tropical and subtropical waters. It probably counts less than three dozen species.

It is best known for the water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), which is a pest in all too many waterways.
