Pont Croesor railway station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pont Croesor is a railway station planned to be built during 2007 and 2008. It is between the stations of Beddgelert and Harbour Station, the latter being the terminus of the Ffestiniog railway. The station is being built as part of the Welsh Highland Railway, which is a large railway project to rebuild a former railway through the Snowdonia National Park.
The station site is adjacent to Pont Croesor bridge, which crosses the River Glaslyn, and is a hybrid road/rail bridge, as each uses the same piers. The bridge was extensively modified in appearance recently to feature standard safety barriers.
The location of the station is close to the RSPB Glaslyn Osprey Project [1] viewing site, from where the public can see the nesting place of a pair of ospreys which successfully raised chicks in 2005 and 2006. The presence of this nest has affected the timetable of reconstruction work on the railway, namely it will be done over the winter months whilst the birds are abroad.
