Pond was a grunge band from Portland, Oregon. They formed in 1992 and broke up in 1999. They were signed to Sub Pop Records (first two albums) and the Work Records sub-label of Sony Records (last album). The band, unlike their contemporaries, leaned on a more progressive side of grunge. Many saw them as "dark and odd" due to Pond's experimental-progressive musical practices, such as a six-string electric bass being played like a lead guitar, and Pond's sometimes dark, haunting, gloomy music.
