PONY Baseball and Softball is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young people grow into healthier and happier adults, primarily through the organization of baseball and softball leagues. It originated at the YMCA in Washington, Pennsylvania and became an international organization in the early 1950s. PONY is an acronym for "Protect Our Nation's Youth," adapted from the initial meaning of "Protect Our Neighborhood Youth." Membership is open to youngsters from age 5 to 18 and the leagues are organized with two-year age brackets.
