Pompei is a city in the province of Naples (Campania, Italy).

The city is mainly famous for the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii. The central basilica, dedicated to Madonna del Rosario di Pompeii, has become a site for Catholic pilgrimages in recent years, most notably with a visit of Pope John Paul II on October 7, 2003.
