[edit] General information
Within the United States and its territories, the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico is the largest private Hispanic university specializing in technology. Today, more that 40% of the graduating engineers in Puerto Rico are alumni of the Polytechnic University. The institution is at the cutting edge of technological advancement thus providing new options in higher education.
Little by little PUPR has been moving toward achieving higher and more complex goals: gradually improving its academic curricula, rigorously selecting its faculty members, honoring its organizational principles and promoting the improvement and expansion of its academic departments.
Attention has been paid to graduate programs as well, through broadening their scope and projections.
The dedication painstaking care spent on teaching tasks, the design of each program, the development and improvement of physical facilities and laboratories, and the integrated quality of our education has been acknowledged in the general accreditations received from the Council of Higher Education of Puerto Rico and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
In addition, and of great significance, four of PUPR's engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and two more programs are currently engaged in the preliminary accreditation process as required by ABET. These four engineering programs accredited by ABET are the first ones offered by a private institution in Puerto Rico that have received such a recognition.
