Political Wire

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Political Wire was one of the first political blogs. It is published by Taegan D. Goddard, a former government official and the author of numerous political books and articles. The site is arguably the most influential, freely-available source of political news and information available on the Internet.

To differentiate itself from many other political blogs, Political Wire integrates dozens of RSS feeds in a web-based news aggregator to live up to its tagline: "All the political news in one place." There are also aggregators that pull together commentary from left- and right-leaning weblogs, dubbed Southpaws and Wingers, respectively.

Early in 2006, Goddard announced a content partnership with Congressional Quarterly. He also added an impressive roster of guest contributors, including Stuart Rothenberg, Dick Morris, Mudcat Saunders, Robert Reich, George Soros and others.

While the blog is non-partisan, Mr. Goddard's personal views are to the left. However, he does a remarkably excellent job of keeping them from distorting the content of the site as demonstrated by the large number of both left and right wing blogs that link to him.

[edit] Predecessor site

Political Wire is directly descended from Political Insider, a political website published by Goddard and the co-author of his book, Christopher Riback. The site's daily briefing was syndicated by about a dozen websites from 1998 to 2000.
