Political parties in New Caledonia lists political parties in New Caledonia. New Caledonia has a number of strong well-developed political parties because of the island's proportional representation in their island Congress. The major issue dividing the parties the desire of some on the island for independence. Parties supported by the French minority oppose independence, while the parties backed by the indigenous "Kanaks" support it.
