The term China does not refer to a single political entity.
The People's Republic of China is, politically, a communist state. Parties of the People's Republic of China only take part in elections in mainland China.
The Republic of China, commonly known as Taiwan, was established in 1911 in Nanking and moved to Taipei following the Chinese civil war.
Hong Kong and Macao are Special Administrative Regions of the People's Republic of China. They have their own form of governance and a high degree of autonomy.
